Start with a question that can be answered.
- Can the proposed number and arrangement of sealed units be placed in the sample outer pack?
- Is there usable clearance around the intended closure or insert?
- Can an initial assembly method be described and repeated within the trial scope?
- What changes or further tests are needed before a production configuration can be agreed?
Agree the trial before it starts.
01 Question and boundaries: Define what the trial will investigate and what it will not prove.
02 Samples and materials: Agree what is needed, who supplies it and any known handling restrictions.
03 Fee and acceptance criteria: Confirm the paid scope and how the observations will be assessed.
04 Findings and next steps: Agree the record of observations, photographs and recommendations required from the trial.
A useful result can be “change the pack”.
A pilot does not have to produce a production-ready answer to be useful. It may show a fit issue, identify a missing component, point to a different arrangement or establish that more investigation is required. Production is a separate scope and approval.
What this does not confirm on its own.
- Shelf life or product stability
- Regulatory compliance or category acceptance
- Full production speed, yield or capacity
- Transit performance or retailer acceptance
- Final unit price or a confirmed launch date
What to include in the enquiry.
Product stage; intended format; unit count; the question you need answered; packaging already available; target timing. Confidential formulations and specifications should only be shared through an agreed private channel after initial review.
Before you brief the work
Is the pilot free?
It is a paid, scoped trial. The fee and agreed work are confirmed before the trial starts; no standard price is implied here.
Does a successful pilot reserve production?
No. Production requires its own agreed quote, specification, materials and schedule.
Can I start without knowing the right outer pack?
Explain what is known and what needs resolving. Sourcing or structural-development work may need a separate scope.
