Define the complete configuration.
- Units and orientation: The number of products in each tray, their facing direction and the intended presentation.
- Tray and support: The supplied or proposed tray, dividers or other components requiring suitability review.
- Information: Product labels, agreed coding and barcode visibility where applicable.
- Shipper and destination: How trays are grouped for dispatch and the retailer or distributor requirements you can provide.
A tray count is not a shipper count.
Illustrative calculation only.
150 trays × 20 sealed units = 3,000 base product units.
If the agreed shipper holds 5 trays, 150 trays require 30 shippers.
The planner calculates product units and finished trays. This shipper calculation is an explanatory example, not an additional live planner output.
Tray strength, product stability, actual fit, transit performance and retailer acceptance need separate review or testing where required.
What to prepare.
- Product and tray dimensions, weights and samples when requested
- Units per tray and required finished-tray quantity
- Product orientation, display and label visibility requirements
- Tray/shipper component specifications available to you
- Relevant retailer or distributor packing instructions
- Coding, dispatch destination and requested date
Questions to settle before a production quote.
- Does the product sit and present as intended in the proposed tray?
- Is the pack stable for the agreed handling and handover?
- Which information must be visible, and who approves it?
- What belongs on the tray, shipper or other dispatch component?
- Which tests or approvals are outside the proposed packing job?
Before you brief the work
Does “shelf-ready” mean approved by a retailer?
No. Requirements vary by retailer, product and channel. Provide the relevant specification so it can be reviewed; the planner does not grant retailer acceptance.
Can you design the tray?
Include any design or sourcing need in the brief. Structural design, samples, materials and approval responsibilities must be agreed separately.
Can I use my existing trays?
Tell us what you have and provide the specifications or samples requested during review. Existing materials are not automatically confirmed suitable.
A CLEAR NEXT STEP
Make the tray specification clear from the start.
Bring the quantities and known details into one brief. Review the checks, add your contact details and send it privately from the planner.
